Discover the wild beauty of Mount Etna Volcano

Mount Etna is the highest and most active volcano in Europe. Towering above the city of Catania on the island of Sicily, it has been growing for about 500,000 years and is in the midst of a series of eruptions that began in 2013.

Etna has displayed a variety of eruption styles, including violent explosions and voluminous lava flows. More than 25% of Sicily’s population lives on Etna’s slopes, and it’s the main source of income for the island, both from agriculture (due to the rich volcanic soil) and tourism.

Explore Etna

Mount Etna is without a doubt one of the most famous places in Italy. And for good reason, thousands of tourists flock there in all seasons.

A national park of Etna was created in 1987 and the site has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visiting Etna allows you to admire a variety of landscapes all year round, except in winter, ranging from volcanic craters to barren lava fields to woods and vineyards.

A lunar landscape is revealed to the hiker as he climbs the slopes, which become steeper and steeper towards the summits. Finally, Etna covers an area of 1,200 km².

The Etna wine, robust structure, pronounced minerality and fruity notes

The Etna wine-producing zone arcs around the eastern side of the volcano, from Randazzo in the north to Santa Maria di Licodia in the south.

Enjoy a moment of peace and quiet on the magnificent golf course

First 18 hole golf course in all of Sicily. Extending along the slopes of Etna, in an unparalleled landscape context, the golf course of Il Picciolo Golf Club is the first 18 hole PAR 72 built in Sicily.

Built in 1989 by the famous architect Luigi Rota Caremoli, this spectacular course with holes dug into the characteristic lava stone of Etna, extends over a course of 5,870 meters and offers a driving range, putting and pitching green.

Randazzo, Sicily: a medieval town close to Mount Etna

The town of Randazzo is situated to the north-east of Sicily, just north of Mount Etna.

Apart from the attractions of the town itself Randazzo is also a popular departure point for visitors making an ascent of Etna, being the closest town to the summit.

Visit Randazzo

According to tradition Randazzo Cathedral was founded before 1000 AD, although the current church dates from the first half of the 13th century. Built with blocks of lava stone, the Cathedral is an interesting example of the Gothic style of religious architecture.

One of the most striking things about Randazzo is its position with a backdrop of the striking cone shaped presence of Mount Etna which is an active volcano which for some of the year is covered in snow. Mount Etna is one of three active volcanoes in Italy which include Stromboli, one of the Aeolian Islands of Sicily and Vesuvius near Naples in Italy.

The city of Randazzo is attractive and a pleasure to visit.
